Time permitting, it is normally preferable to create a course directly onto the chart. For inshore racing, however, when courses may have to be created within 5-6 minutes of the start gun, it is likely to be faster and more practical to create the course from a library of waypoints. These can be created and edited from within Seatrack they can also directly be downloaded from or uploaded to a GPS.

By reference to tidal and wind data, route planning provides the optimal departure time and estimated time of arrival.
